How can I get my coffee to taste like a restaurant’s brew?

Can you answer Veritas T.A.I.’s question about Coffee?:
I use Gevalia coffee at home and keep my coffeemaker clean but even when I pour a fresh just-brewed cup it doesn’t equal the flavor and smoothness of restaurant coffee. I also store my coffee in small amounts in an airtight, opaque container to keep it fresh.

What is the secret? Is it true that restaurants use an additive or flavor enhancer in their coffee to reduce the acid?

Coffee Feedback: No, just use extremely cold water when brewing your coffee. If you have refrigerated water that would work ,well. Try it and let me know if it works for you.
Coffee Feedback: try keeping it in the fridge. I also use gevalia. as for your question on if they use additives then the answer is no. ask the restraunt what kind of coffe they serve, you would be suprised to find out that most of them use the same kind. Chace&sanborn usally.
Coffee Feedback: Do you use filtered water? A lot of the time when you use tap water the chlorine can hurt the flavor of coffee depending on the level. A lot of restaurants use filtered water and this allows you to get the full flavor of the coffee. If you don’t filter your water you might want to buy a Brita pitcher filter or get one that hooks up to your sink outlet. You can get these at Lowe’s Home Depot and other retail stores. Try filtering and let me know if it makes a difference. Good Luck

Coffee Feedback: order an espresso macchiato plain, then check the taste and the temperature of the coffee. coffee maker cannot reach the temperature needed unlike the comercial coffee machine. coffee beans are likely the same sometimes the machine make’s the difference.
Coffee Feedback: I also get Gevalia Peruvian Organic , Kona, Jamaica blue,etc . What I’ve found is that it requires commitment and top quality equipment to make consistently superior coffee. Brew temp is critical 195-205F . Most home drip brewers never reach that temp!. Grind is also critical (never buy pre ground) Exception may be flavored coffee. Get a burr grinder and grind on demand only. Get a COMMERCIAL brewer for the correct brew temp and short brew time ( hear fast brew time low acid) Newco makes a good one . advise the smallest model available to use at home.
