Why do I get headaches after drinking coffee?
Answered By Editor
The caffeine in coffee is a diuretic. It can
be dehydrating, and headaches are a common
symptom of dehydration. I would also consider
how and when you drink coffee. If you get a
headache every time you drink coffee you
maybe allergic to an ingredient.
Caffeine generally often improves symptoms
for persons with headaches or migraines.
Perhaps that is what you are experiencing if
your headaches occur hours later or the next
day. The best thing to do is document your
coffee intake and resulting headache info
(how long after, severity, duration, etc.)
and take this information to your family
physician to discuss with him or her.
