Coffee and the Boomer Generation

By Sigrid Vargas

There is something about Coffee!

In fact, not just for the boomers, but even earlier coffee started playing a major role in our lives. But then, Boomers are not ordinary people! Whatever we do, we do with a huge passion. It is simply not possible for us to do something ordinary! Either we do it with a blast or we don't do it at all.

The same is true in the case of coffee. There is something about coffee that has us drawn uncontrollably to its magic. Think back to your first date. Most probably you were in high school, and chances are that you would have said 'let's meet for a cup of coffee'. And there started the passion for coffee! We were browsing through some of the boomer blogs, and most of them had some kind of a reference to this wonderful beverage.

While one lady fondly remembered the Maxwell house commercial of the 1960's, one more vented out her frustration about instant coffee taking over the days of the good old brew.

There is a lot of magic about those brown beans roasting and grinding in front of us, and waking up to that aroma is probably one of the best memories our generation has. All of us as children would have yearned for a cup, and mom would have given us a sip and would have said 'grow up, and you can have a full one'.

Even today, a lot of things that we do at work and at home are inexorably linked to a good cup of Joe. True, with Starbucks and the like, we have hundreds of variants available. But still, the quaint aromatic cup of freshly brewed coffee has no replacements!
